SYSTEM No. 2.

The Underground Cables forming this portion

of the System are some of them Concentric but mostly of the two-

-core type. The Low Pressure Supply is furnished by Transformers

generally placed on Consumer's Premises. Regulations Nos. I and

III are substantially complied with, excepting as regards

Regulation No. I, Section A. No. 28. Many of the Transformers

with their High Pressure Control Gear are placed on Retaining

Walls, &c., out of reach of interference by unauthorized parties

without the use of a ladder or other means. Other Transformers,

placed in Basements, are, with their controlling gear, enclosed

in hard wood cases, but not in metal casings as laid down in the

Regulation above quoted.

SYSTEM No. 3.

The Overhead High Preasure Conductors

coming under this heading are for the most part 7 No. 16 S.F.G.

Stranded Cable insulated with pure and vulcanised India Rubber

and braided. The Conductors are invariably carried by porcelain

suspending insulators from a steel strand composed of 3 No./4

or 4 No. 16 Galvanized Wires attached to insulators. In general

these Overhead Conductors are installed to comply with Regula-

-tions No. IV, Sections Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 10 and 11. It is

not practicable to comply with Section No. 8 (Crossing Streets)

as in many places the only way to carry an Overhead Line along

a street, avoiding obstacles, has been to place the poles on

alternate sides of the street and cross from side to side. This

practice has been avoided as far as practicable.

Wherever Overhead Low Pressure Conductors

are used throughout the Company's Distribution System, Hard-

-drawn Copper stranded Conductors are employed of not less

sectional area than 7 No. 18 S.V.G. covered with braided

insulation and carried on insulators. Regulations No. IV,

Sections Nos. 5 and 6 lay down certain methods and positions for the Conductors, but in view of the fact of the law pressures employed here (100 volts, or 200 volts in the case of 3 wire supply) and that our conducters are covered, would ask that

latitude be allowed in respect of conforming with the above-
